RE: Converting a Window A/C to Rooftop RV unit

Prof,
Thanks for the details on the retro Samsung/brisk Air A/C. I hope the details will be a great help for those who feel qualified to do the job. As for me, it looks to be more then I would be able to accomplish. If younger and bold, it would be a 'go to' project. Prof, you truly are a wonder to behold. A man of many talents.

RE: Converting a Window A/C to Rooftop RV unit

Heck, Old & Slow.
I sure do hate to see my neighbors sad.
If you ever do decide to try and tackle an A/C project, let me know.
I would be more than happy to assist you in your project with my knowledge/license/special tooling.
Thanks Ryan,~aks 'off the grid'
Hey, home boy, I like the roof of your rig. Solar, well, you are 'King of the road' don't need no fifty cents for the grid or trailer park:B. You may get a PM from O & S some day to please help. I'm a PRO at being a tight wad. I like the idea of a 5000/6000 btu Chinese (Samsung) import for around a hundred bucks and a free (if possible) Brisk Air shell. Can I figure on the possibility of only adding baffels to complete the unit?

RE: Converting a Window A/C to Rooftop RV unit

My guess is that 'Converting a Window A/C to a Rooftop unit' is for Pros like Prof' to show another one of a kind, project for a real Pro. That leaves me out of the mix once again. Maybe some day a project will be shown that might apply to a old novice. Metel working has never been my strong suit even tho I like to try at times. But being a A/C tech, I am not. No license or licence. I hate being left out of the game, makes me sad.

Bobandcat,
Bob,
A job well done. As soon as possible I will get the temp you are asking. How and where will you carry this unit for RV use?

RE: Converting a Window A/C to Rooftop RV unit

All you Pros make for good reading but sadly I'm a novice. Prof, please post some 1-2-3 photos with a picture of the baffels needed. Or maybe this might be to involved for O & S? I want to add this unit for use with the possible use of a DC/AC Inverter and more silent night time cooling.

RE: Ramsond Generator

One horsepower = 745 watts. It's just another way of measuring an engine's power. Horsepower isn't metric, so some of the world uses watts instead.
If this is true, then a 6.5 hp Chinese C'honda should produce 4,842.5 Watts:h
All generators oversize the motor and the gen to deal with surge load, electric motor starting and higher altitudes. That is why there is a continuous rating and a surge rating, both are relevant. The weakest link determines the actual limiting factor be it wire gauges used, breakers, its ability to cool itself etc:
How about you try to pull the full rated kw and surge out of yours... I think you might be in for a let down. If you do get back to us with some usefull input for a change! :)

I have no idea why 'engine watts' has any meaning.

RE: How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?

My 76 Dodge "Concoure" has 2 drain valves. The forward most being the grey water and the rear one black water. I have the operating instructions for it if you think it will help.Mine has two tanks and two valves... When I originally got the RV they were separate but they face each other. The 3" (black) had a swivel elbow on the end and the 1.5" (grey) ended at the gate valve. It is still legal to dump grey water in NFs as long as you don't dump within 200ft of any body water so I ass/u/me that one of the POs changed the grey valve and just did not put an end on it. I ordered the 3"-1.5" "Y" valve assembly from PPL and added some black ABS pipe to the grey line so the two now connect.
Ken
I just looked at my 78 Tioga tank set-up. No way to tell if PO did a mod. The two tanks have seperate read outs on the panel. Two cut off valves, one for each tank before the main outlet. I think 78 was perhaps a large advance year. I had no knowledge of these things before buying. Just got lucky. The 200' rule is also new to me. I think most folks dump gray water (shouldn't say this) at night. This is what I notice in State Parks.

RE: Picked up a Champion genny today

Finally broke down and bought a Champion 3500 yesterday at Tractor Supply.
Got it for $268. I also bought a 3 year warranty for $34.
The only oil I had was Amsoil 5W30. Added some fuel and it popped right over. Plugged in my shop vac and measured 62Hz @ 123.3V.
Works for me.
Can't wait to get out and try it on my 5'er.
Nice deal.

RE: Can I replace an RV refrigerator with a regular refrigerator

My previous MH had a 10 c/f Electric fridge. We loved it. We now own a Older MH but it had a nearly new Norcold and we hate to replace it until there might be a problem. When using the Electric refrigerator we never worried about the bubble being in the center. Mostly drive in and plug in. At 74 that's nice. We seldom drycamp. And yes, if we were to full time, we would prefer Electric.

RE: Picked up a Champion genny today

Our Champion C46540 has been running constantly for 6 days now since hurricane Ike blew in. It is now running a 15K A/C unit, a flat screed TV., a table lamp, a fan and the PC that I am now typing on. Also the refer... Changed to oil today. It hasn't skipped a beat... Not bad for $400.00....
My hope is the generator companys don't take advantage of the storms and rack up a large profit. It would be nice if Champion and others sent a few container loads of gensets as good will to thoses in need and not raise prices. JM 2c's worth.

RE: Fixing water damage on the old Dodge (pics)

I love following this thread. I have a 78 24' Dodge Tioga that was completely refurbished. When the project was undertaken there had only been one small leaking area in the mid section on one side. The MH was owned in Utah for 29 years. The previous owner had a new roof with new ceiling installed. A one pc Aluminum sheet rolled over the side walls was used. Why didn't the factory use this method? The inside of my unit is now just like new and all the paint is great. Van part, new paint. Even the Orange remains inside, lol. I'm anxious to see the project of this thread completed. We all are cheering. Lot's of talent here.

Wow, I'm I glad i didn't risk more cash to buy a new MH. Tioga (Dodge) thirty years old and counting. I feel lucky. All I need is water, sack of beans and rice. Do I need to head to the hills with shovel in hand?

Old & Slow,
>When buying, remember it takes 4 pcs (two packages) for the complete system on a Sportsman MB van.
Are you saying that there are two pieces for each bushing? So, one package is for one end of the crossbar only?
The wiper system is made of several bars connected with the use of 4 bushings. Kinda hard to see when you look through the vent. My first thought was only one bushing needed to be replaced. What a surprise when I got into the repair and replacement of the bushings.

RE: How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?

Wiper Linkage Bushings,
When buying, remember it takes 4 pcs (two packages) for the complete system on a Sportsman MB van. Some multi packaged bushings will not work. The DORMAN 49440 is the correct item number and they come two to a package. As they say 'don't leave home without them' better yet, just change them now. They are poly and fall apart with age. Much like the old body. :(

RE: How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?

Thanks all for the good wishes and prayers. I'm outliving the time given by the Doctors. There is nothing better than a good camping trip for the soul. Some days I'm kinda unsteady and recently was camping in the hill country of Texas when I fell and seperated the tendons in the left elbow that required surgery. Better now but the Doctor's orders, no camping for six more weeks.
This thread is great for owners and future owners of the Dodge based RV's. So much info'. One thing for me. Should have had the brakes checked before the first trip. The left front caliper locked up and required a complete brake job with new rotors and all.
The 16' $1800 RV would have been good for me too! I just wonder if these new RV's will be good 30 years from now? On my deal the previous owner keep the unit for over 20 years and upgraded just about everything and then decided to get a new MH. The book on my MH is only about $1600 but the condition gives me a great value. And the wow I get when others see it is great. I did notice a MH not long ago like Leeann drives and it too gave me a WOW. I agree, cute. I'm old enough to remember the 60's/70's when these rigs were new. Back to the future. They remain with us. Great comfort then & now.
